As a storyteller, I appreciated reading and reflecting on the biblical stores as told by Lindsay Hardin Freeman. I can easily imagine adapting these tales for oral storytelling events to the delight of children and adults alike. Conversations following the events will come a live with the help of the excellent questions accompanying each story. --The Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley Episcopal Bishop of Oregon Portland, OregonI liked the dove and the Federal Birds of Investigation. Also I liked how it was taken from the dove and the other animals perspective in a way I could understand. Definitely a thumbs up!' --Alex Hamann, age 10 Wilmington, North CarolinaRefreshing, beautiful, inspiring and creative these are all words I would use to describe the first person narrative writings of Lindsay Hardin-Freeman. Our women s book group read The Scarlet Cord: Conversations with God s Chosen Women and we fell in love with her approach to women we d read of often but were reading again with new eyes. We saw ourselves in a different light and grew in faith. Rev. Freeman has accomplished this again in her children s book, The Spy on Noah s Ark and other Bible Stories from the Inside Out. Children (and adults too) reading this new work will find themselves inside the stories, feeling in the center of centuries-old accounts of God s relationship with and love for His creation, all creation. This in turn could spur them to begin their own journey of faith with the Living God. --Julie H. Crider Book Group Facilitator, Damariscotta Baptist Church, Damariscotta, Maine

Doctor De Soto is a well-respected mouse-dentist who runs a successful practice with his wife (and able assistant) Mrs. De Soto. The De Sotos are friendly and professional toward all their patients, from chipmunks to donkeys to cows, the exception being 'cats and other dangerous animals,' as stated clearly on the sign outside the office. But the De Sotos are tender-hearted rodents, so when a miserable fox shows up begging for treatment, they agree to have a look (perhaps against their better judgment). As it turns out, this fox, with 'a rotten bicuspid and unusually bad breath,' manages to behave himself while tiny Doctor De Soto is standing mid-molar inside his gaping jaws. When the wily fox returns the next day to get his replacement gold tooth, however, he has mouse-flavored snacks on his mind. Luckily, Doctor De Soto and his wife have anticipated such despicable canine intentions, and find a way to outfox the ungrateful fox. William Steig, award-winning creator of Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, once again offers young readers a clever, amusing tale of interspecies mingling. As usual, Steig's tone is matter-of-fact, and his enchanting illustrations of the responsible mouse couple and their foxy adversary are alive with expression and emotion. Kids will appreciate the De Sotos' wit, and will be delighted to read more about this diminutive couple's adventures in Doctor De Soto Goes to Africa.
